Dr. Alison Ankiewicz, PT
Passionate health care professional with a heart for healing and a soft spot for four-legged companions. When I am not caring for patients, you will find me hanging with my 6 pack of Rhodesian Ridgebacks who keep my life adventurous and grounded. I obtained my first Ridgeback 10 years ago and because Rocky was so loving and loyal, I knew one was not enough. As an avid equestrian in the past, dog showing intrigued me for sure! This is when a beautiful Ridgeback named Reilly landed in my lap and soon after she hit the show ring!
I was hooked! Reilly became a Grand Champion before the age of two, with the help of a handler as I was still learning how to show. Sadly, Reilly passed at the age of two from Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia- the same leukemia as I had as a child. Unfortunately, this type of leukemia was fatal in dogs. I knew this would not stop my passion for these sleek athletic dogs with soulful eyes and a calm presence. While we had Reilly, I brought in another female from the same breeder who I proudly championed myself.
Wanting to expand our family after Reilly’s passing, another breeder offered a beautiful male that helped heal my heart and get me back into the show ring. With great mentorship and wonderful friendships within the fancy, I was able to Grand Champion 4 more ridgebacks. My few years in the breed surrounded by mentoring and care, my knowledge grew about the health and wellness of our breed. I have had the opportunity to breed twice (Dynamic Ridegbacks)- I proudly have three generations in my home. But to this day, the most important aspect of this breed is their health. I know I have so much more to learn.
When I was nominated to join the Board of Directors for RRCF, I knew it was time to give back to this incredible breed. I was honored to have written a recent article which presented promising research funded by RRCF. In addition, I am proud to be on the Board of Directors for Greater Valley Forge Rhodesian Ridgeback Club- where I enjoy helping with the regional specialties and volunteering at functions hosted by our club.
Outside of ridgebacks, I am the proud mother of two recent college graduates Thomas and Alexandra. Professionally, I am a Doctor of Physical Therapy and owner of Inner Dynamics Physical Therapy Pelvic Health and Wellness Center. I am also the Vice President of the Board of Trustees for Mary’s Place By the Sea, a non profit organization that supports the wellness for women with cancer. As a health care professional and a ridgeback enthusiast, I am committed to wellness - for humans and hounds alike!
