I got my first Ridgeback, Sophie, a livernose, in 1994. That opened a whole new experience with dogs other than what I had experienced in the past. I quickly learned that owing a RR required a level of training and responsibility that I had not considered prior to Sophie. With the help of Meg Redfern, Rare Earth kennel, I was introduced to all of the performance events. This led to a relationship with Sophie and future RR’s that enriched my life beyond measure.

Joining RRCUS was another beginning that enhanced my knowledge of the breed and the importance of understanding the ethics of ownership and the importance of testing in breeding. This interest eventually led me, along with Mary Lynn Elliot, to create the Rhodesian Ridgeback Charitable Foundation for the purpose of enhancing the health and future of RR’s and dogs in general.

Going forward this all led to various positions within RRCUS including, but not limited to President for four years of RRCUS, Performance Chair for several years and National Specialty Chair twice. But I consider the formation of the Foundation as one of my most successful achievements.
